Not exactly a pow and a zoom right in the kisser
This movie based on the 1950's black and white TV show about a Bus Driver and his upstairs sewer repairing best friend always trying to find easy ways to make money to move up in life. Great TV show with Jackie Gleason and Art Carney, two great comedians of their times. I watched it as a child and still love it today.
In this movie, Ralph (played by Cedrick The Entertainer, a great comedian) as usual is looking for a quick scheme to make fast money, specially when Alice (played by Gabrielle Union, a beauty), his wife, wants to buy this condo she found out was on sale before a large corporation gets their hands on it. Ralph and Norton (played by Mike Epps, another great comedian), once again, embark on one of their scheme journeys from buying an antique train cart to be converted into a site seeing trolly, to a greyhound found in a dumpster they want to train to run in the dog races, to eventually selling the train cart and getting the money they need before he loses his wife and best friend.
I thought the movie was funny. It was weird to picture the Honeymooners with black characters having watched the show for so many years with white characters. But the movie was pretty good. It followed the original characters pretty well with a 21 century twist to it. The movie does tend to get a bit dull at times, not enough story line to keep you glued to the TV but was still funny and good enough to watch all the way. I guess one is so use to seeing the show on TV for half an hour that it’s not the same when watching it for 2 hours with all new characters. They did, however, did a great job choosing Gabrielle Union as Alice and Regina Hall as Trixie. Dam they are both fine looking women. I’d watched the movie just for them alone.
It has the look, it has the feel and it has the comedy of the original TV show with some new twist for a new generation. I give this movie 3 Stars out of 5.
