I’m a big fan of fast food. Thru out the years I’ve learned a thing or two on how to shop at fast foods. There was always the problem of missing items or wrong orders. Another thing I hated a lot was the waiting time. I never understood how some places would take long on an empty drive thru while in other locations of the same fast food service was great.
One thing however tends to irritate me the most is the lack of condiments in my bag. I came to understand the reason behind not always getting ketchup when I ordered a combo that came with fries but when they don’t offer it and I then realize I have to eat my fries ketchup less I would get upset. I mean I can’t always remember to check if I have the necessary condiments. I however expect them to at least ask me since their 4 to 8 hours of work are spent around the products. For crying out loud, ketchup and fries are like hamburgers with cheese, not everyone like both together but you ask anyways. Another example is the chicken nuggets in some fast food menus. BBQ sauce should be a no brainer unless you have other options like honey mustard, which you should then ask which one would they like. I’m not saying hat none of them ask or offer condiments, many of them do, I just hate the idea of having to ask for it myself or forgetting and having to eat it without the condiment when it was their responsibility to make sure I got what I paid for.
And for those who may want to claim as to who am I to say what their responsibilities are, I worked in a fast food once, for 2 years. We had one main rule, great service was a must and that included making sure the customer had any and all condiments and/or utensils necessary for a great eating experience. As a cook I always made sure to follow the cooking instructions for quality food and as a cashier I made sure that every customer got what they paid for and more living them with a great impression and a desire to return for the great food and service. I have experienced what it’s like to be on both sides of the counter, as a worker I always kept in mind that I would treat the customer the way I would like to be treated, now if I could only clone myself I would always have great service anywhere my clones worked.
My point (for those who have yet to get it)? I believe that fast foods should do better at making sure those customers that deserve good, no, great service should get it and that employees should not paint all customers with the same brush. Depending on the content of the orders, employees should always make sure to offer the proper condiments. And smile never killed anyone. After all a job is a job and if you not happy there find another one, cause I, the customer, should not have to pay the price for you unhappiness.
